Alyssa got a call from Basil before the party was over.
She found a quiet place to answer it. "Hello?"
"I’m at the entrance of your office building. Is the party over?" Basil asked.
Alyssa let out a sigh. "Not yet. It would seem rude if I left now. I think you will have to wait for a moment."
"How about I go inside to keep you company?" he asked, looking handsome and confident as he leaned against the car door.
He sounded so gentle she was tempted to say yes.
No doubt that her handsome and rich boyfriend would become the center of the party immediately if she agreed to let him join her. Once the fact that she was dating the son of the owner of the Xu Group was out, she would be respected like a goddess even though she was just an intern right now. But she decided otherwise.
"No need. There’s a cafe around the corner. Why don’t you go there and have a cup of coffee while waiting for me? I’ll join you as soon as I can,"
Alyssa replied as she looked at the people around her.
It was a yearly meeting of JK Group. Basil was not an employee. She considered it inappropriate to have him there.
Basil responded with a smile, "Fine. But I haven't seen you in days. Don’t keep me waiting for too long. You know I’m never a patient person."
Alyssa blushed at his words. They might not see each other every day, but they texted and video chatted on WeChat whenever they could. They talked on the phone a few times every day. They knew about each other's days very well.
"Okay, okay."
She hung up in a hurry. There was a tinge of anger in her voice. Then she walked towards Callum, who was standing there with a glass of wine in his hand. Some female coworkers in their best attire surrounded him. He circulated calmly and effectively.
When Alyssa was close enough, she asked him in a whisper, "When does the party end?
How many more programs are there?"
Callum swirled his glass of wine, smiled at those female coworkers surrounding him, but didn’t answer her.
Alyssa felt embarrassed and took a seat. There was nothing she could do but to wait until it was all over.
Once Basil walked in with his right hand in his pocket, many heads turned to look at him.
He wore a black suit. Unlike Aaron, he was amiable and smiled at everyone looking at him. His innate elegance affected people and made them want to be just elegant as him.
Even a vulgar person would heed manners around him.
Basil swept across the room and found Alyssa. He looked at her affectionately. Alyssa saw him.
He walked over to her table and pinched her cheek, ignoring the other people’s gazes. "I missed you so much, Miss Lin,"
he teased.
Many people present knew Basil. He was young and capable. Some anticipated that if he took over the Xu Group, it would be strong enough to compete against JK Group in a very short time.
Alyssa gnawed at her lower lip, slightly angry that he had come to the party despite the fact that she had told him not to. She stood up and dragged him to a quieter place. "Didn’t I tell you to wait for me in a cafe?
Why did you come here anyway?" she complained, lowering her voice, afraid that anyone else would hear her.
"I told you I was not patient," Basil said defensively.
Her red dress, which set off her fair skin, along with her makeup, made her more womanly and attractive. Looking at her, Basil couldn’t help but hold her chin and said tenderly, "Gosh! You’re so beautiful today."
It sounded like the most intoxicating words in the world. Instantly, Alyssa’s anger vanished. It worked every time.
