School was over. Winnie dared not hide from Saxon this time, because she believed Saxon meant what he had said in the clinic today.

On the way, Saxon was very light-hearted. He didn’t remember when they last walked together on the way.

He wanted to take her by the hand. After he was reborn, he had dreamt many times such a happy moment he was going home with Winnie hand in hand.

However, as soon as he moved his hand towards Winnie, she escaped. He was annoyed by this. Since the army training, he became tougher and more possessive. He didn’t like being refused. So he wanted to drag Winnie by the hand. But he found Winnie’s eyes suddenly turned red. His heart softened and he gave up his rash act.

Upon getting home, Winnie rushed upstairs to her bedroom without even greeting her father sitting in the hall.

Saxon frowned at seeing Winnie running like a rabbit. He wanted to catch up with her, but he was stopped by Tony, who came to him with a newspaper in hand. Looking at Winnie’s running back, Tony asked Saxon, "What happened to Winnie? Why is she in such a hurry?"

Saxon was gloomy. But he answered Tony smilingly, "There was a difficult math problem in school today she failed to settle…so she may be unhappy…"

Tony nodded and sighed, "As for my daughter, she is a good girl except that she is stubborn. Once she decides something, it is hard to change, just like in study…"

However, Tony’s words did not make Saxon feel easy. So he paused quite a while and then nodded thoughtfully, "Yes, she is really stubborn…"

Winnie didn’t come downstairs for supper until late that evening. Saxon had long been there waiting at the table. He seemed to have taken a bath dressed casually in a grey sweater and white trousers. His hair was still wet, which made him look mild, not as overbearing as in the daytime.

As a junior in the family, she was arranged to sit beside Saxon. Winnie was very unwilling to go near him. But her father was there, so she had to follow the arrangement.

This was the first time Winnie ate so quietly in the family. She concentrated on her food and even paid no attention to her father.

Tony didn’t notice this. He focused on Saxon. He looked at Saxon amiably and asked, "Saxon how was your first day in school? Anything special today?"

Saxon smiled and answered politely, "This was my first day to school and the teacher was concerned about me. She arranged me to be Winnie’s desk mate. As for the special thing today…"

Saxon paused and turned around to gaze at Winnie, who still buried herself in eating and paid no attention to him. Saxon made a tricky smile and said earnestly and definitely, "The special thing today was …that Winnie and I …went to… the…CLINIC!"

To Winnie, the last word CLINIC was a warning. Winnie was in a sudden terror. The spoon dropped off her hand and fell onto the floor. She looked up at him pleadingly.

Saxon felt better seeing Winnie’s eyesight turning to him at last.

But Tony was nervous. He asked both of them worriedly, "Clinic? Why did you go to the clinic? Was either of you hurt or uncomfortable?"

Winnie’s face went pale. She was frightened and didn’t know what to say. She was speechless.

Seeing Winnie was nervous and didn’t know what to do, Saxon gently patted Winnie on her leg. Winnie was so scared that she was about to jump up and told her father what he had done to her.

But Saxon made her take back what she wanted to say. He raised his left hand with a bandage, on which dots of blood could be seen.

He explained to Winnie’s father, "I cut my finger carelessly. I didn’t know where the clinic was. Winnie companied me there…"

He turned around looking at Winnie smilingly and asked her gently, "Is that right, Winnie?"
