He was looking at no other than Veronica.
Now, she was sitting opposite to Jasper. Jasper was having his meal gracefully. He looked quite different today. His bangs were swept back with elaborate care, showing his large, gently curved forehead. Affection was filled in his gentle eyes. He was elegant and most girls' hearts would beat fast the moment they saw him.
Veronica was different. She did not wear those cute and beautiful dresses like always. Instead, she was wearing a T-shirt and pants. She simply tied a pony tail, lying against her back.
She could only wear these simple, cheap clothes when Anna was not around. As a matter of fact, she chose them deliberately and enjoyed the feeling wearing them. They would always remind her of the miserable life she had lived in her past life. It made her alert. She would never easily forget the terrible things her family and boyfriend had done to her. She wanted herself to remember everything all the time.
Jasper did not mind the way Veronica dressed up. He was still considerate and thoughtful. He showed his care and affection for her as he always did. The cheap clothes had nothing to do with his feelings for her. What he cared the most was Veronica but not her clothes.
Veronica was staring at somewhere. She had been doing it for quite a long time. When Jasper raised his head from his meal, he took a sip of his drink and asked with a soft voice, "Veronica, what are you looking at?"
"Oh." Veronica turned her eyes and looked at him. Smiling, she replied, "I am looking at you. Didn't you notice it?"
Jasper burst out into laughter. He was happy to hear such words. "Why are you staring at me then, my princess?"
"Well…" Veronica gazed at him right into his eyes and answered in a seemingly affectionate tone, "You look quite different today."
Jasper smiled again. "This is for you. Do you like it?"
"Yes, I do," she responded like a robot.
As soon as she finished her words, she turned to look at that direction again. Jasper noticed it too. Finally, he could not hold his curiosity anymore. "Veronica…"
Veronica cut him off. She smiled and waved in that direction. "I saw an acquaintance."
"Who?" Jasper turned around to check who she was referring to.
"Miss Bai. My English teacher."
Lyla had also chiseled features. But she looked quite different from Cheryl. She was stunningly beautiful. This day, she was wearing a red tube dress which showed her figure perfectly. She had makeup on her face. She was aggressive yet gentle. Ordinary men could hardly be a match for her in a relationship.
When she saw Veronica wave at her, she patted the man beside her before she walked towards Veronica with the man.
Veronica stood up from her seat and hugged her while whispering in her ear, "Is he your boyfriend, Miss Bai?"
Lyla patted Veronica on the head slightly. Sometimes, she would feel shy too. Veronica noticed the shyness in her eyes.
"No. Don't talk nonsense. He is just a friend. Well, more than a friend but not my boyfriend."
Veronica stroked her forehead while tucking her tongue. Shen then asked, "Do you like him?"
Women talked. Men talked. Jasper seemed to know that man. Now they were chatting and laughing.
Lyla tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. "I don't dislike him. But as for where we would end, I don't know," she replied with honesty.
That man was not a good match for Lyla. He had a wife and a son. He was a married man and had a happy family. But now here he was, trying to cheat Lyla.
He seemed to be quite nervous. He had not anticipated meeting any acquaintance here. From time to time, he would take a glance at Lyla from the corner of his eyes. Sometimes, he would also measure Veronica with his eyes.
He took the initiative to ask Lyla out and pretended that he was a single man. No wonder he was so anxious now.
Well, Veronica would make him more nervous.
Lyla never hesitated to love or hate. Veronica remembered that in their past life, Lyla did some crazy things to his family after she learned about the fact that that man was a married man. She loved the man so much that she would rather destroy him instead of letting him go.
She would also destroy that man at any cost should she learn the truth before she fell in love with that man.
Holding Lyla's hand, Veronica stopped smiling. Instead, she sighed while shaking her head like an experienced woman. Lyla was confused by her behavior. "What's it, Veronica?" she asked.
"You know something? William Yang is married. His son is old enough to go to elementary school."
