Three days later it was Friday afternoon. Dalia still hadn't heard back from her last audition so she was already filled with doubts again despite the good words she heard from the judges. -They probably found someone better.- she thought while looking out the window.
There in the driveway she saw her mom, Jaxx, and Emily getting out the car with suitcases. She walked outside to give them a hand. "You know you guys are only staying for two days right?" she teased. "Look, Dalia..." her sister said emphasizing her name. "We must be prepared for everything."
"Like what, the apocalypse?" Their mother joined. "Ha ha" Emily said sarcastically. Jaxx took out a black duffle bag with a cord poking out. "Really jaxx, you know I have an Xbox right?"
"Yeah but you won't let me bring it to our room." He said stuffing the cord back in and pulled the zipper as tight as he could. "whatever" Dalia mumbled.
After they got all their stuff in and Jaxx and Emily were inside Dalia went to say bye to their mom. "Why didn't they stay with dad?" she asked bending down in the car window.
"Him and his wife are out of town."
"Oh, alright well get there safe. Love ya."
"Love ya to." And with that Dalia was stuck at home with her siblings just like old times.
Dalia walked in the front door and down the hallway to the two spare bedrooms she had. Thankful that there were two so she didn't have to deal with the arguing her siblings constantly did, at least not yet.
Jaxx was already on his games and Emily had already made a mess of the room and was sprawled out on the bed texting on her phone. "Emily, I've gotta go to the store. Watch Jaxx and please clean up or imma take the phone away."
"Is that a threat or a request?" she asked. "Both" Dalia grabbed her keys from the counter and headed out the door. She didn't take the car much since it was much cheaper to ride the bus but they've got a schedule that didn't always match Dalia's so she ended up getting a car in the end.
When she got there she grabbed a few things that didn't need much preparations to be cooked. She was usually out and about so she didn't get too much food for the house but with her siblings staying there she wasn't gonna let them starve and she knew that they could eat a lot. She proceeded to check out and went on her way back home. She entered the house to see her brother and sister playing cards. specifically an old game that their aunt had taught them and not many people they met knew of the game.
"Do you peeps mind helping me out here?" They looked over and put on their shoes to help with the bags of food. When everything was inside Emily and Jaxx sat back down while Dalia put everything away. "Oh yeah, Dalia you got mail." Emily said.
Dalia froze in place wondering if news about her audition was in there. She looked through the mail and her heart almost stopped when she found a letter from the place. She had a flashback to the room with the judges in it. "We have your contact information and we'll call you if you got the job and if you didn't we'll mail you a letter so you're not hanging."
She knew she'd been rejected but she opened the letter anyway. Even if the worst part had come she wanted to see it with her own eyes. A tear rolled down her cheek as she dropped the letter on the counter.
Emily saw and picked up the letter to read it and then hugged her sister. Jaxx did the same before saying "congratulations sid! You did it!"
She looked looked at the letter again:
*Dear Miss Pate, we've tried to contact you regarding the role of 'Lilly' in 'My dear Lilly' but have had no luck. We hope you receive this letter and contact us as soon as possible using the number and email below. If we have no response by ##/##/## we will have to give the role to someone else. Signed secretary Melanie.*
At that moment Dalia realized her stupidity and forgot about her phone bill that was due two days ago. She used Emily's phone to call them before she did anything else then paid her phone bill online.
The lady on the phone said to be back in a week ready to start acting and Dalia felt like she would explode from happiness. -MY FIRST LEAD ROLE. AHHHHHHHHH.- She was screaming inside her head.
"Guys, get ready. We're going to Texas Rhode House to celebrate."
"Yesss!!!" they exclaimed happy. It was Dalia's favorite place and they couldn't remember the last time they went out together without parents or friend.
They ate chicken and hotdogs with some sides and finished it off with cake. Jaxx and Emily fell asleep in the car and Dalia managed to carry them both inside. -Dang, y'all have gotten fat.- Dalia thought laughing knowing very well that they weren't. It seemed no matter how much they ate they'd still look skinny but weigh a ton. Personally she didn't care what anybody looked like but that never stopped her from teasing family and friends.
She went and laid in bed thinking about the role she would play. She used to be a shy person and some of that shyness never went away but she could deal with it better now. It was all in how she prepared herself. Now she had to prepare herself for a romance movie with a stranger. "I wont let anything ruin this for me. This could be the gateway for me" she whispered to herself quietly. Then she finally rolled over and covered up with her quilt before she closed her eyes and went to sleep.
