She was somewhat surprised as the two maids holding two brand new wedding dresses.
One of them was clearly the dress she declined that day. She thought it was too expensive and didn’t want to owe Nigel a favor. After all, they were only fake couples, they might divorce at any time. She didn't want to stay with him forever. So when this dress was present to her eyes, she didn’t feel happy.
Her heart sank slightly, and her brows frowned, because she noticed something unusual in it.
Mammy Zhang looked at Janiya who was in a daze, so she urged, "Miss Janiya. Please choose one. Time waits for no one."
Janiya recovered, she touched that expensive wedding dres gently. The veil was very soft. But in the end, she pointed at the other dress, turning to Mammy Zhang, and said, "Just this one."
Mammy Zhang looked at Janiya doubtfully. She put that expensive wedding dress in her hands and said, "Today is a big day for you. It is better to wear this one. This one ..."
Before Mammy Zhang finished, Janiya cut her off in an indifferent voice. "Mammy Zhang. Didn’t you just ask me to choose by myself?"
"Yes..yes..hurry up to help Miss Janiya put on this wedding dress." Mammy Zhang noticed a bite of impatience in Janiya’s voice, she corrected hastily and put the wedding dress chosen by Janiya to the maid. Janiya followed the maid into the locker room and put on that thick yet beautiful wedding dress.
"Miss Janiya. Just come out after you changed. We’re running out of time." Mammy Zhang urged as she saw the maid stepping out, but without Janiya.
Janiya answered, held the long pendant of her wedding dress and took a deep breath, as if encouraging herself. It would come when it came. She couldn’t hide it all her life. Thinking of it, she had to walk out.
The moment the maid saw the glass door was pushed open, she stepped forward quickly and opened the glass door with great care. While the other maid pulled the long skirt behind Janiya to prevent her from stepping on the skirt and fell.
"Wow..What a beautiful bride. The wedding dress make you look more lovely." The makeup artist stood in front of her exclaimed with admiration.
Under the blessings of everyone, Janiya opened her eyes and looked at the mirror. She was kinda dazed, looking into the mirror at herself—gorgeous under the dazzling light. The pink wedding dress brought out her white complexion. As a maid put a pure white rhinestone crown on her head, she looked like an proud princess, waiting for her marriage.
Everybody was happy, they couldn't help but applaud. There was too much meaning in their applause. Maybe everyone thought that she finally married into a wealthy family and could live a happy life forever; or maybe they really congratulated her. No matter how, their applause seemed too harsh in her ears, it didn’t make her feel better.
Because this wedding wasn’t what she want.
That spring when she reached eighteen years old, she laid in front of the TV watching romance drama. When she saw the loving hero and the heroine finally walked down the aisle, she cried happily. How happy it was to be able to marry someone you love.
However, everything happened in that year’s summer changed her life drastically. Everything she longed for was gone, for she knew that she wasn't worthy of these anymore. She could only endure the humiliation and live in disgrace. Being human, she couldn't have what she wanted, which was really sad and pathetic.
Janiya felt her eyes flew wet, something blocking her nose that she couldn't breathe. When she reacted, a single warm tear fell just on the back of her hand. She raised her head to look at the halo above her head. She just felt that everything happened too suddenly.
As the makeup artist saw Janiya was crying, she hastened to fix her makeup, and muttered in her eyes, "Oh! the bride couldn’t be too excited. Beware of crying or the tears will wipe your makeup. Cheer up! It is your wedding day!"
She pulled herself away from memories as the makeup artist using the soft makeup brush on her face. For a moment, she couldn’t hear the noises around her and the makeup artist’s ongoing mutter.
She wiped away the tears softly, looked at the photographer in front of her with a perfect smile. She knew that she couldn't be defeated, because it wouldn’t be long for her to get out of there.
When everything was ready, with the help of Mammy Zhang and other maids, she sat on the bed in her room. Everything proceeded in accordance with the correct wedding procedure.
She was at peace, sitting idly on the bed with a bouquet in her hands, looking at the colorful ornament around her. She can't help but feel a little lonely. When others got married, there would be some close friends come as bridesmaids, but she had none.
After the accident of her family, her good friends also left one after another. She knew that, as a impoverished girl like her, those upper classes wouldn’t play with her again. It was normal for them to leave her, she never blamed them.
Everyone came this world with his own mission. The departure of someone would eventually be a new beginning. She had nothing to be disappointed about the past.
She just felt lonely sometimes. After a long time of being alone, sometimes she could only talk to herself.
However, as she fell into trance, the noise downstairs broke her silence. She was so sensitive to noise that she was upset like a frightened bird. She frowned and asked Mammy Zhang, "What's the voice downstairs?"
Obviously, Mammy Zhang also didn't know. Confronting with Janiya’ doubts, Mammy Zhang opened the door and went down to find out what happened. After a while, she went upstairs and answered, "Miss Janiya. It's the bridesmaids. "
Bridesmaids?
A familiar but strange word for her, she couldn’t respond. She just felt curious. She had no friends. Even her own mother didn't necessarily know when she got married. Who would like to attend her wedding now?
