Nigel has always been quick and accurate in doing things, even when it came to cooking. In his words, time was money, and he wouldn’t spend much time on one thing.
After half an hour, the dinner was on the table, all dishes looked and smelled so amazing and appetizing at first glance. Nigel watched Janiya and grandma talking and laughing, and asked curiously, "What are you talking about? You are so happy."
Janiya held the chopsticks and said disdainfully, "It’s none of your business. This is the secret between me and grandma."
Nigel looked at grandma, she just smiled cheerfully and kept putting more food in Janiya’s bowl, ignoring him. It seemed that she was on Janiya’s side over the past half an hour.
Janiya had to say that although Nigel had a bad temper, but his cooking was unexpectedly delicious. She thought that his grandma had exaggerated, but she didn’t expect it to be true. This was the first that she had two bowls of rice. She usually ate like a bird, half a bowl was enough.
Nigel saw Janiya eating more than half of she usually had, his heart was filling with delight, but he said with an extremely disgusting tone, "You’ll gain weight as you eat like a horse now. "
Janiya only felt that the man in front of her was incredibly annoying. Weight was the most important issue for women, but it was too chilling to say something like this at a meal.
She never put up with Nigel, so she retorted directly, "You should feel happy that I am willing to eat your cooking. Instead, you are picky about my body. I am wondering how people like you can have a wife."
"I never ask you to eat, you eat by yourself." He behaved calmly and dignified. And the one who finally got angry was still Janiya.
She should really look for a book to learn how to be sarcastic, at least let her win Nigel for once, then she might stop being a loser.
"It’s better for woman to get fat, you may get pregnant easily, so I’ll have my grandsons soon." Grandma smiled at them as they argued with each other. She didn’t stop them, and even added a savor to their argument.
Janiya stood up and said, "Who wants to have a child with him!" After this, she packed her own chopsticks and left the dining room.
Grandma saw Janiya left the room with an unhappy expression, she asked Nigel subconsciously, "Am I just saying something wrong?"
"She’s in one of her moods. Just leave her alone." Nigel said, while he watched Janiya’s disappearing figure out of the corner of his eyes and kept wondering, but finally he gave no response, as if nothing has happened. If she got angry, how should he coax her?
It was getting dark, Janiya sat on the beach, listening to the waves beating on the rocks and watching the lighthouse flickering in the distance. The gate of her heart was flung open.
Summer was finally over, she felt a bit cold to sit on the seashore at night. But thinking that Nigel was still in the room, she decided to sit here for a little longer, lest he would piss her off again.
She received a text message that was sent by Sienna. She glanced at the text, it was a photo of a child smiling, he was innocent and cute. Judging from his clothing, he must live a pleasant life. Janiya felt relieved.
The ensuing text was, “Your son’s birthday in coming up. The boss arranges a meet for you.”
It was indeed time for his birthday. Thinking of this, she felt an overwhelming sadness for she even couldn’t protect her own child. With her limited ability, she might not handle herself.
A warm tear dripped on the back of her hand, guilt has arisen in her heart. She wasn’t a responsible mother. From beginning to end, she was just using others, even her own children.
The pocket watch hanging around her neck accidentally fell out of the collar, she held the pocket watch tightly. As if her father was here to console her. She could only comfort herself like that so she might feel better.
"If you continue to sit here blowing cold wind, you may have facial paralysis the next day."
Behind her was the most familiar voice, she wiped her tears away quickly, then turned around and said in dissatisfaction, "That’s none of your business."
"You just cried?" Even though the light was dim, but by the moonlight, he could still see clearly her misty and red eyes. He sat beside her and when he saw the tightly-squeezed pocket watch in her hands, he turned to look at the sea and asked, "Have you missed your father?"
"Just mind your own business. I can take care of myself." Janiya said stubbornly, then put the pocket watch into her clothes carefully.
The pocket watch was her life, supporting her to stay alive. The only thing she could keep was this. If she lost even this, she really didn’t know what else could support her in the future.
"I don't have a father, either." He said this in a somewhat helpless tone. Janiya glanced at him and said, "that’s not right. Whatever you say, he’s still your father."
"He give life to me but never care about me. If he can be called as a good father, then it’s really easy to be one." Nigel said resentfully. But he didn’t blame Janiya, after all, she knew nothing.
"My family once abandoned me, so now I don’t trust anyone. That’s all their faults." Nigel continued to say to herself. Janiya was the most loyal listener, she listened to him grumbling quietly with her mind a long way away.
"Will you abandon me in the future?" Nigel suddenly asked her, making Janiya shudder.
She looked at Nigel's deep-set eyes. From his complex eyes, she seemed to see his expectation. She didn't know how to answer this question, and she also didn't want to lie. So she beat around the bush and said, "Nigel, we won’t get together."
From the beginning, their end was doomed. They were enemy and never gonna be together.
"Huh, I forgot. You are a heartless woman." He couldn't help thinking about what happened three years ago, she did whatever it took to climb up on his bed. In order to achieve her own purpose, she could even disregard her own child. Though he didn’t get the exact evidence, but he should already knew that.
"As long as you know. You just treat me as a heartless woman. It’s good to be heartless, so you will never feel painful." Janiya didn’t without justifying herself, wrapping her arms around her legs.
