The light of the street lamp was very dim, especially in the alley. Amidst the vibrant colors of the bar, Mu Rui muttered under his breath and rode his bicycle with one hand while holding an umbrella.
Returning from the night demon, you have to pass through a residential alley, a street, and a bridge to get back to the school. Then, you turn into the bustling streets of the city center before finally arriving at the spacious university area.
There were already very few people on the road. The dormitory doors would probably be locked at around 11 o'clock, and it was already 10:30 when they came out of the nightclub.
"Be careful! Be careful!"
As Mu Rui passed by the bridge, he heard the voice of a woman with a crying tone.
He slowly stopped the car, not because he wanted to meddle in other people's business, but because he recognized the bicycle by the pedestrian road lamp ahead. As he got closer, he realized it belonged to Cheng Jin.
Why is he here?
Mu Rui was muttering to himself in his heart, pressing on his toes to support the ground, and bringing the bicycle to a stop.
In the dispersing glow of the street lamp, the shadow of the drizzling raindrops could be captured, resembling tiny needles.
He propped his bicycle against the roadside while holding an umbrella, and walked along the riverbank under the bridge. Looking up, the further the light from the street lamps went, the dimmer it became, only revealing a blurry figure swaying in the water.
Tian, is Cheng Jin in the water?
Mu Rui took a few more steps towards the shore and saw a figure swimming ahead. It was a woman in her early thirties, running along the bank in the same direction.
"My child..." the woman sobbed and ran, a few strands of hair falling onto her forehead.
"Pull up."
Cheng Jin's hair was damp, in the darkness, carrying the crying child of a tender age in front. The woman ceased her tears and, with a mix of sorrow and joy, hurriedly squatted down to lift up her own child.
Cheng Jin's chest heaved up and down, panting slightly, while his trembling body under his coat trembled.
"Hey, young man!"
After taking the child, the woman caught sight of the hand holding onto the child slipping down. Cheng Jin, with one hand clinging to the cement ground by the bank, only felt a sense of fatigue, unable to summon enough strength to climb up.
Cheng Jin!
Mu Rui saw his face under the dim streetlight, and immediately realized that something was wrong. He quickly approached and reached out to grab Cheng Jin's hand, but to his surprise, the hand slipped away, only brushing against the moist fingertips.
Is it you? Cheng Jin's voice was drowned in his throat, his eyes filled with surprise. The icy water surface emitted a faint light, becoming more distant. His short hair slowly floated up due to the water's force.
When Mu Rui spat out a few mouthfuls of river water, he grimaced and wiped his mouth. Just now, when he jumped in to pull that guy up, he unexpectedly drank a few mouthfuls of river water. Who knows what kind of weird stuff is in this water.
"How about calling 120?!" The woman on the side asked nervously, with great caution.
Mu Rui leaned down and moved closer to the person lying on the ground, listening carefully to their heartbeat. After a moment, he looked up at the woman and said, "He should be fine. I'm his classmate. You should go back with your child quickly. It's late, and I'll take care of him."
The mobile phone just fell into the water too, so we need to make a phone call home quickly, but... the woman said with teary eyes, hurriedly responding.
"Mama, I'm cold." The child pouted in distress, tightly gripping onto the woman's sleeve.
"Wait a little longer, let's leave after big brother wakes up."
Mu Rui knew that the woman was worried and afraid that Cheng Jincai would refuse to leave, so she had to wake him up. Drawing on his first aid knowledge, he thought about giving him artificial respiration. Damn it, Mu Rui cursed silently in his heart. Forget it, let's treat him like a woman.
"I'll try to see if I can wake him up."
Mu Rui frowned after glancing at the woman, and then he stared at the person on the ground several times before swallowing his saliva and assuming a regretful expression. He bent down with the appearance of a hero. He reached out, pinching Cheng Jin's chin slightly and lifting it up a bit, while also pinching his nose to maintain a natural expression on his face.
The woman didn't seem to mind much, just looked at it earnestly.
For some reason, when their lips touched and they engaged in artificial respiration, Mu Rui felt a strange sensation flash through his mind.
*cough cough.*
After blowing out several breaths, Cheng Jin suddenly turned his head and coughed. Mu Rui instinctively looked up, his eyes fixed on Cheng Jin, waiting for him to open his eyes.
"Cheng Jin."
"...Mu Rui?"
Cheng Jin slowly lifted her gaze, her eyes misty and hazy. Gradually, her vision became clearer, revealing an enlarged face in front of her. It felt as if she could even sense the breath, and it was Murui.
She finally woke up." The woman burst into tears of joy, unable to help but sigh. "Thank you, really thank you."
Mu Rui reached out to support Cheng Jin, who was trying to sit up. He smiled shyly and mustered a response as he sat up, saying, "It's alright, it's alright."
After thanking them, the woman quickly left. Watching the mother and son walk away under an umbrella, Cheng Jin felt a sense of relief, as if all his strength had been drained.
"Are you getting up?"
"En."
Mu Rui pulled him up by the arm and said, "The dormitory is probably locked. Let's go to my place." For some inexplicable reason, Mu Rui had actually said such a sentence. Could it be that he felt guilty deep down inside?
Cheng Jin pondered for a moment and nodded. "Alright, that's a bit troublesome."
The car was pushed back, and the two of them shared an umbrella, looking a bit awkward as they huddled together. They parked the bicycle downstairs, where the street lamp emitted a faint white light. Through the light, they could see the fine drizzle, floating in the air.
"Would you like to eat something? I will go downstairs to buy some late-night snacks," Mu Rui said as he took off his wet coat and hung it on the coat rack. Standing at the doorway without changing his shoes, he simply turned on the lights in the living room.
"No need, just some hot water will do," Cheng Jin said with a slightly awkward smile.
"Okay."
Mu Rui actually didn't feel like going back and forth. As he changed his shoes, he said, "Just take off your clothes. I'll find you a set to wear, mine... You should be able to fit in them."
"Should be possible."
