Jane was her classmate but not her confidante. They were just ordinary friends. She remembered before she met Saxon Fu in the last life, Jane also used to invite her to her birthday party. Just the same, her father then asked her to meet Uncle Fu, and as she didn’t like the noisy party surroundings, she refused Jane’s invitation.
But now…
Winnie’s eyes brimmed with some merriment. She supposed she might escape from this meeting and stop that terrible life from going on.
Thus she picked up the phone and called Jane. Jane was surprised to hear that Winnie liked to come to her birthday party. She asked directly, "But Winnie didn’t you like any party? Last time when I invited you, you refused?!"
Winnie paused for a while and then went on to explain casually, "So isn’t it that I suddenly realize I was wrong then?"
Of course, Jane was happy that Winnie might come to her party. Though Winnie appeared cold and difficult to get close to, actually she was easy-going, kindhearted and ready to help others if you really were together with her. What’s more, she was so beautiful that anyone would like to be companied with her. Therefore, Jane didn’t question about it too much but only mentioned about the gift and hung off the phone.
After the phone call, Winnie was completely relaxed. She felt so energetic and passionate to face this present world she was reborn to. Her vigorous eyes were brimming with hope. A week went away soon and the day arrived when Justin and his son Saxon came to her home.
That morning, Winnie woke up early considering how to tell her father the reason of going out that day.
Before going to have breakfast, Winnie set an alarm in her phone that rang like someone calling her. So when eating with her father, as soon as the alarm rang, Winnie picked up her phone before her father saw it clearly and pretended to answer the phone.
Then she gave her father a glimpse and found he didn’t pay attention to her. So she moistened her lips and spoke deliberately louder, "Oh, really!?" to attract Tony’s instant attention.
Seeing that her father looking at her, Winnie appeared apologetically saying in the phone, "Oh, I am really sorry…sorry…I didn’t mean it…Don’t be mad! Don’t worry. I am sure I’ll go today. I assure you!"
After talking, Winnie went on holding her phone and pretended to be listening while nodding her head from to time replying "En, Yes…"
Tony frowned seeing his daughter in a difficult situation in the phone while keeping explaining and apologizing. It was the first time he saw his daughter in this way, so he asked, "What’s the matter?" Winnie put her phone aside, looked at her father and said guiltily," I forgot it’s Jane’s birthday today. Just now she was angry and asked me when I could go to her birthday party. So in a minute, I should go to her party…" Hearing this, Tony was annoyed and felt reluctant because he thought of Justin’s coming today, "but today, your Uncle Fu is coming…He is the boss of the Fu’s group! The Fu’s background and position are so distinguished that no one in the city can challenge. Today it is our pleasure that Uncle Fu comes to visit us. We must be decent and good-mannered. But you… have to attend that so called Jane’s birthday party…?"
Winnie frowned too and appeared very difficult. She bit her lip looking very grieved. After quite some while, she said lowly but eagerly, "But…but Jane was my first friend…" she went on murmuring but no one could hear what it was…
Seeing his daughter look so grieved, Tony felt a little disturbed. He knew his daughter had few friends and used to be very lonely, so today…
After all he was concerned about his daughter, so Tony sighed at last and said sympathetically to her, "All right…You just go to the party. But don’t be too late. Remember to come back early…"
All of a sudden, Winnie brimmed brightly with merriments and felt like jumping with joy, but reason told her not to do that. She tried to calm herself down and smiled brightly to her father nodding her agreement, "No problem! Father, you don’t need to worry!"
After breakfast, Winnie packed up quickly and went out.
Seeing his daughter in such a hurry, Tony supposed that his daughter was eager to meet her friends and felt a little relieved.
In fact, in Jane’s party, Winnie only hid somewhere away from others. Just as Jane commented, she never liked to be in such a noisy situation.
But to escape from the risk of meeting Saxon, she had to stay there until nine at night. Because according to her memory, in the last time, Saxon left her house at about evening time. Thus she could never meet him if she didn’t go back before nine pm.
Winnie’s favor granted her of not only coming to her party, but also staying there so long today really made Jane surprised, so she kept on thanking and praising her when seeing her off.
Because of this, Winnie felt quite sorry even after she got on the underground.
The underground train stroke on the rail making noisy sounds "clang, clang…". Sitting by the window, Winnie was watching the dark sky outside, on which was hanging the moon, so big, so round and so bright. The moon’s soft rays shone brilliantly on the dark ground and brightened it like a day world.
So delighted, she smiled very brightly, as if she had just unloaded all the heavy burden on her shoulders. Even her steps going home sounded light and swift.
She believed all was over when she got home today from then on. She could bid farewell to the past as well as to Saxon Fu completely.
Slowly, Winnie walked towards home. At her house gate, she stopped reaching out her hand to open it. But just at that moment, without knowing why, her eyes began to blur. And then she saw a water drop on the back of her hand, so hot, and so burning to her.
