Alyssa and Aaron arrived at the office together. Many employees saw her get out of his car. Instantly, gossip flew around. Some supposed she would become Aaron’s wife soon.
Aaron was always aloof. Even to Pamela, he acted only a little warmer than to other employees. They wondered why he treated Alyssa differently.
The special treatment alarmed all the female employees who had always admired the CEO. He used to treat each of them the same. That was fair. They couldn't complain. And now there was someone special to their superstar. It freaked them out.
Sure enough, Alyssa became a stone in the shoe to the other women in the company. For the whole day, they ganged up against her and made everything difficult for her.
Right now, Alyssa was fumbling around in her little medicine kit. Influenced by her father, she knew a lot about medicine. She always kept a medicine kit with her.
She took out a tube of ointment for scalds and applied some on her right hand, wincing from the pain. The back of her hand was red and swollen.
It happened several minutes ago. Holding her mug in hand, Alyssa went to the tea room to get some water from the water dispenser. A woman got there before her. When she was done, she didn’t leave but stood aside. Alyssa put her mug on the drip tray and waited. The woman next to her tilted her cup and hot water spilled on Alyssa’s hand.
“Oops, sorry.”
Alyssa turned to look at her. If she was at somewhere else, she would have gotten a full mug of water and thrown it to the woman's face. But she was in the office. She couldn't do it. So she said nothing and did nothing.
She applied a lot of ointment, but the pain didn’t abate at all.
Later, Pamela walked in her office. Alyssa stood up immediately and greeted her respectfully, “Pamela.”
“We’re doing business with an American company. I want you to draft the contract. Don’t make a mistake with the sum of the money concerned. It’s ten million.”
After that, Pamela turned to leave, her eyes shining with malice.
Alyssa was confused. This kind of work used to be done by Callum. She wondered why Pamela assigned it to her this time. But she didn’t dwell on the thought. She was an employee after all. She needed to do her job.
When the contract was done, she delivered it to Pamela’s office. Then she returned to her own office. Some blisters appeared on her hand. She pricked them and applied more ointment. Despite the pain, she had to focus on her work. A meeting was about to commence. She prepared the materials Aaron needed and brought them to his office.
The swelling was getting worse. When she put the file on his desk, Aaron noticed the injury to her hand.
“What happened?” he asked.
She withdrew her hand and said, “Nothing serious. I scalded my hand.”
She wasn’t a snitch, at least not on trivial matters. But once she did snitch, it would be serious enough to get those people canned.
Before she was off work, she called her father and asked him to bring home some ointment for scalds.
Basil asked her out for dinner after work. His heart ached at the scald on her hand. He was more insistent that she should leave JK Group.
When Alyssa got home, she was worn out. Since she didn’t come home last night, she knew her father was about to give her a speech as soon as he saw her. Roderick was an old-fashioned man. He was against premarital sex.
Like father, like daughter. Even though Alyssa joked about all kinds of things, she never had sex with a man, not to mention fooling around with men.
