“You have one minute left,” Aaron said.
Then he turned around and went downstairs. Scared, Alyssa patted her chest to calm herself down after he had left.
To be there in one minute, she washed her face perfunctorily before hastening downstairs.
When she reached the dining room, Aaron was sitting at the head of the table reading a newspaper. She took a seat.
Various kinds of food covered the top of the table. Some Chinese, Some Western.
They worked up an appetite. Alyssa’s mouth almost watered. She stole a glance at Aaron. Since he didn’t react, she didn’t wait for him and started eating happily.
She wasn’t in her own home and the man sitting with her was her boss, so she tried to act like a lady.
After a while, Aaron slowly picked up his chopsticks. The way he ate was graceful, but it gave an impression that he wasn’t enjoying the food.
Alyssa, however, conveyed her joy in many ways. Her sparkling eyes, raised brow, her smile...one had only to look at her to know how contented she was. It was like she was at a feast.
For drinks, she was having milk while he was having black coffee.
She ate jellied bean curd, steamed meat buns, and Aaron had a ham sandwich.
The food they ate was very different.
But after finishing her Chinese food, Alyssa ate some Western food too. As a result, when she finally stopped eating, she was so stuffed she had a stomachache.
Nadia came to clean the table when they were both done eating. “Miss Lin, you have a big appetite. You ate twice as much as young master does,” she said with a smile. Alyssa flushed with embarrassment.
She looked at Aaron. He was half smiling at her.
“Well, normally I don’t eat so much. Today’s breakfast was too tasty,” she explained.
Nadia beamed. She really liked this girl. She found Alyssa pretty and genuine. Most importantly, Aaron liked her. He had been single for so long his grandfather had started worrying that he might be gay. Now he could be relieved.
After breakfast, Aaron sat on the couch in the living room and resumed reading newspapers.
Alyssa kept checking the time on her phone. They were about to be late for work.
But Aaron didn’t seem to be in a hurry at all. She wondered why.
“Um, Mr. Gu, we should get going. We’re running late for work,” she reminded him.
“I’m the boss. I show up whenever I want,” he replied casually.
But what about me? If I’m late, my bonus is gone! At least drive me work! she thought.
She felt like screaming at him, but on second thought, she decided it was unwise and managed to make herself calm down.
“Boss, I’m running late. Can you give me a lift? It’s insanely difficult to catch a cab in the morning in this area,” she asked in a sweet, pitiful tone.
“Last night, I brought you home and gave you a roof and a bed. I provided you with breakfast this morning. Wasn’t that enough? And now I have to chauffeur you?” he protested.
“No, no, I’ll be the chauffeur,” she replied anxiously. She had only twenty minutes left.
“Please, Mr. Gu. If I’m late, I’ll lose my full attendance bonus. Boo...hoo...” she pleaded sadly, as if she could hear the sound of her bonus leaving her.
Finally, Aaron put the newspapers down. He put on his fancy suit jacket and said to her, “Okay. Let's roll.”
“After you, Boss!” Now she was cheerful again.
She walked out of the house after him.
As soon as they left, Nadia called Aaron’s grandfather to report to him on Aaron. When the old man heard that his son had brought a woman home, he grinned from ear to ear, as if he were seeing his great-grandchildren running around the house.
