Finally, Shawn failed to meet God. Those zombies did not eat him, but directly went upstairs. He was only stepped on and then thoroughly passed out.
He was awoken by hunger. A pleasant smell was caught as he was sleeping. The smell was so pleasant and made his mouth water. How he wished he could take a bite. It was the smell that had awoken him.
He felt his physical body, found neither his limbs nor his flesh missing, felt rather relieved, and spoke silently, “One who survives a great disaster is destined to good fortune for ever after.”
“Eek? There is someone there. Is it a human being? Should we go check it?”
“Don’t, perhaps it is a zombie.”
“Then we kill it?”
“What if it is a man?”
“Don’t be afraid, we’ve already killed people before.”
As the two men got closer and closer, Shawn quickly crept from the floor and ran away. Although he did not know how he had survived from the crowd of zombies, he was sure he would be dead if he didn’t run right away.
“Shit! It must be a man running so fast.”
“Leave him, let’s get something to eat...”
Shawn still heard their discussion as they went away.
He was tired and starving after running around a whole day. On second thoughts, he found a cafe and hid inside temporarily.
There were not many people here at this time. Finally, he could have a good rest. However, he was rather starving. He felt his belly, got up, searched the cafe, and found a bag of instant noodles. It must have been left by the staff.
Without hot water, Shawn tore open the bag and started chewing dry noodles. Taking a bite, he instantly spat it out. It tasted so terrible. Had it expired?
He picked up the packing bag which had been thrown on the floor and had a look. There was still three months before expiration.
Then why did it taste so bad?
At the moment, he caught a pleasant smell again. Looking toward the direction, he found the source of the smell was a man.
He became panic instantly. Why would he think human flesh pleasant and want to eat it? On second thoughts, he had had these feelings before, and more than once.
His limbs became stiff, and a horrible idea came into his mind. Did he catch an illness of desiring for human flesh?
He was chilled with fear, and decided to bury this horrible idea in mind. Also, he was afraid to stay here any longer, in case he could not restrain himself and ate the man.
Getting out of the cafe, he was aimless and wandered on the street. However, he remembered to stay away from zombies. So as he saw them, he did not get close but scuttled away from them.
He was not sure whether such things had happened somewhere else. If so, that would be rather terrible.
A burst of sound of fighting interrupted his thoughts, and he brought back to himself. He saw a few people surrounded by zombies and fighting hard with them.
He was not planned to give help, for he was just hurt by fellows and almost got killed because of them. Now he was rather suspicious of humanity. Besides, he was uncertain that he could save them from the herd. Neither did he want to get killed.
However, the people started crying for help as they saw Shawn, and children’s crying was mixed amid their cries. Shawn stepped up his pace, trying to get away. However, he returned after walking a short distance. Eventually, he did not have the heart to walk away.
He picked up a steel bar, and went to the back of the herd. Looking at them for a while, he said to himself that they were not human any longer, and killing them was not a crime. Then he struck the back of the head of a zombie. However, the zombie was still uninjured, reached out his paw toward one of the people, but ignored Shawn.
“Strike off their heads, so that they wouldn’t move!” Someone called out in the crowd.
Shawn collected himself, and struck toward the head of the zombie. Half of the neck of the zombie had been bitten off, and his head rolled down to ground with the strike. Without the head, the remaining part of the body fell on the ground, too.
Seeing this, Shawn knew he had mastered the method. Since he did not need to dodge zombies, he moved very fast. It didn’t take him a while to kill a group of zombies.
People among the herd saw it, and started fighting harder. Soon, zombies became less and less, and a breach was opened. Seeing this, the people ran away through the breach one after another, only leaving Shawn.
Shawn was totally disappointed. He fought zombies, regretting having been soft-hearted.
Zombies who had gathered together because of hearing the sound of fighting and catching the smell of food slowly approached Shawn, and surrounded him. He felt rather desperate.
He didn’t want to die, however, he had no choice. It would be much better if zombies just walked away. His desire for living was rather intense at the moment.
Parts of zombies left as he was fighting. He did not hear any sound. Neither did he see anyone else. It was obvious that those zombies were not attracted by fresh food.
An incredible idea came into his mind. “Leave, come, leave, come.” He said to himself.
Zombies moved forward and backward as his thoughts, which made him shocked. It was not an illusion that he could control zombies. Instead, it was true.
Was it his supernatural ability?
Daring not to think about it any longer, he quickly left the place after ordering zombies to get away from him.
In order to prove his guess, he conducted a series of experiments all the way, and found that he could really control zombies. He was so delighted that he got a talent for saving his life.
He became hungry again after a while. He walked into a grocery, grabbed some food, and then went into a bookshop where there were fewer people.
He happened to sit under the bookshelf of novels. Looking up, he saw three words, Zombie King. Somehow he picked out the book and started reading it.
A dozen minutes later, he took off his hat and sunglasses which still existed after several twists and turns, and looked into the mirror of the bookshop. In the mirror, he saw blue face, black lips, and eyeballs which were getting more scarlet and protruded slightly.
It did not look like a normal man at all. He had turned into a zombie, a zombie who could run and jump, and have ideas!
He looked down at the cover of the book in his hand. The three bright red words, Zombie King, was extremely prominent in the background of the black cover and other words.
“Zombie King? That sounds fair.”
