As Shawn was trying to leave quietly, numerous roars came from the community. The sound was so familiar that it made him feel like he had entered an icehouse. Although wearing thick clothes, he still felt rather cold.
Things were much worse than he thought. Probably people living in the community did not go to work as he expected, but more likely had turned into zombies before his eyes.
He was panic and accidentally kicked a can. The sound caused by the can attracted other zombies. So did zombies squatting down before stood up, and looked at Shawn’s direction.
Shawn’s mind went blank, and he started running in a direction out of instinct. He didn’t notice that those zombies chased him for a while. However, they became puzzled, stopped, and continued wandering as they were about to catch up with him.
He swore that he had never run so fast since childhood. He ran at full speed for about thirty minutes until he was blacked out. At last, he was really unable to run any further, leant himself against a wire pole, and caught his breath.
Recovering himself, Shawn took a look at the surroundings. It was in the neighborhood of the company in which he had worked before, more zombies wandering here.
He felt weak at the knees, and desperately regretted. He would have chosen another direction to run if he had known about it.
Trying his best to breathe slowly, he walked toward the opposite direction cautiously and softly, praying that those zombies would not find him.
It seemed that God answered his call. He harmlessly reached a place where there was no sign of zombies. Although there were no zombies here, neither were there living people.
Walking along the road with his mind going haywire. What exactly had happened the night before? How did a normal man turn into a zombie?
“Honk, honk.”
Suddenly, he heard car horns. Looking toward the sound, he saw a car full of stains. A man stretched his head out of the front window and said, “Hey! Get out of my way!”
Hearing of this, like reviving all of a sudden, Shawn walked toward the car in excitement.
However, the men in the car didn’t give him a chance. Another raised his gun and pointed it at Shawn from the rear window, “Stop, or I will shoot you!”
Shawn held his steps. Like being poured cold water on, the joy of seeing fellows suddenly disappeared, and he stared blankly at the car.
The men in the car neglected Shawn, pointed the gun at him, and ordered him to step aside. Shawn stiffly moved and made way. The car fastly passed him.
Looking at the car whizzing down the road, he was struck dumb for a while, and then proceeded.
Next he saw several cars, but he did not approach them recklessly. Instead, he observed them for a while, and then walked away.
The people looked the same as those he met before, tense and nervous, being wary of surroundings. Neither would them give him help.
He hung aimlessly around for a while, and walked into a supermarket. He felt a little hungry and wanted to grab something to eat.
By contrast with situations outside, the supermarket was filled with people. They were madly collecting food on the shelves.
Not until now did he realize it was a complete mess outside. He avoided crowds, found a place with few people, and then started collecting food as others.
Whether it was due to illusion, by contrast with the food ahead, Shawn would rather eat those living people. He was so scared that he quickly got the idea out of his mind. He must have been starving so that he would like to eat people.
After collecting a small bag of food, he found that all food were gone. Therefore, he stopped and decided to squeeze out of the crowd.
Suddenly, someone called out, “Zombies are coming.” Then the crowd who were madly collecting food started moving. They continuously ran upstairs, and Shawn was pushed and made towards the upstairs in the crowd.
The closer he got to the crowd, the fresher human flesh smelt, which made Shawn want to take a big bite. As he was about to bite someone’s arm, he was pushed down on the floor. Then a lot of people stepped over his body, and he was almost stepped to death.
After the group left, he vaguely saw numerous zombies rushing inside, and screams sounded all over the place.
Looking at zombies rushing toward him, Shawn thought he was about to go to see God.
