The man who just greeted them was wearing a chesterfield coat and a pair of Italian hand-made leather shoes. He looked like the character Harry Osborn in Spider-man.
This was the host of the dinner party--future president of Boao Group--Sam Winster.
“It had been a long time, my buddy.” The guy smiled to Wayne.
“Is the bidding gonna start tonight?” While Wayne kept a distance and seemed to be a little bit resistant to the man.
“Oh, please. You gotta be kidding me. Let me advise you first--you’re not gonna keep the land all by yourself.”
“I never share with anybody else.”
“So just wait and see.”
“Mr Winster, the pianist couldn’t make his way here. It’s hard to have someone at the same level to play for us very soon by now.” A middle-aged man came to Sam and whispered.
“He’s graduated from Holgos Conservatory of Music? Talk to the dean and see if there are any graduates we can make contact with in this city.”
“I have. But there is not.”
The guy was slightly pissed off and then he hissed, “Seriously? You can’t even handle a simple issue like this?”
The middle-aged man didn’t speak and frowned.
“I graduated from Holgos. May I give a try?” Jane suggested.
“That will be great. Anyone who graduated from Holgos is able to play at a world-class concert.” The man grinned and was greatly relieved.
“So, please, Miss Lim.” Sam then held up her hand and led her onto the stage.
Jane sat by the grand piano under a giant crystal chandelier and looked like a fairy sent from heaven.
A beautiful song jumped under her fingers and made its way all around the hall.
Everyone was attracted and enjoyed the music at this moment.
After Jane finished playing, the hall rang with thunderous applause. And then a big feast was served.
Trays of steak, tiramisu, pudding, sushi, all sorts of fresh sea food and the like were brought to their tables by handsome waiters.
While good-looking waitresses were there for pouring champagne and wine.
As for Sam Winster, he was surrounded by businessmen during the meal. They had the same purpose--winning the bid.
Sam was holding the glass and kept wearing the same polite smile to everyone who came to him. While his eyes were fixing on the girl sitting beside the piano.
Lindsey Finn witnessed it all. She traipsed to Sam and made a toast.
The guy drank his wine up.
“You don’t look very well. Jet-lag?”
“I assume you would only praise young girl looked well. Am I correct?” Lindsey responded with a light smile.
“Aren’t you coming home for your pretty boy?” Sam grinned.
“That’s true. So what are you gonna do about the land?” Lindsey told the truth. She’s the upright, honest and frank type that all business partners liked her.
“It’s a secret.” Sam winked behind his square wire-rimmed glasses.
“Now that you are this interested in this little one, I guess you are aware of the exact decision to make. You and me both know how her dad died after all.” Lindsey added.
“Yeah, a poor child.” Sam was feeling pity for the beauty playing on the stage as she shouldn’t have been brought into this in-fighting.
“Aren’t you interested in other choices in P&F under the same condition?” The woman continued.
“It mustn’t have to be P&F.”
Before Sam pulled his mind back to reality, Jane had already finished playing and walked downstairs to sit with Wayne. He had to admit the two were a perfect match somehow.
“Miss Lim, you’re the star of this dinner party. You played so well.” Sam walked to her, clapped and ignored Wayne’s stare.
“It was an honor to be able to help. I had a wonderful time.” Jane hadn’t played ever since the tragedy happened and she was truly glad to give it a try in this occasion.
“Wish to have another chance to hear your play.”
The guy tried to handed a glass of champagne to Jane but was blocked by a firm hand.
“She can’t drink.” Wayne pulled a long face.
“Oh, come on, buddy. Take it easy, it’s just a glass of drink.” Sam shook his head and smiled.
“Mr Winster, you know who I am. I wish you could consider our offer. As you may see, P&F has a promising future...”
“Don’t you get it? All-star Group promises to give us twice the price P&F bids.”
“While you know they don’t have a good reputation. I assume you know who’s investing and who’s gambling.”
“I thought we could have further cooperation. But it was you that refused Boao’s investment.”
“Well, we don’t need more shareholders so far.”
“So there is no possibility?”
“No possibility for the investment.”
The atmosphere then reached to an awkward point.
“Well, why you two guys still don’t invite me to dance? Wayne, come on, let’s dance.”
Lindsey cocked the eyes at Sam Winster and led Wayne to the dance floor.
“So Miss Lim, may I?” Of course the guy wouldn’t let the chance of getting familiar with Jane go.
“I’m not a good dancer, Mr Winster.”
Jane was only being modest. Although she didn’t have much working experience, she had been to numerous occasions like this with her father before. She understood what Wayne and Sam truly were fighting for just now. If it wasn’t for her, Wayne wouldn’t have offended All-star Group and he wouldn’t have to put up with these troubles. She did owe him a lot.
“Miss Lim, please don’t be self-effacing. I have been to parties your family had held.”
“So it’s no wonder I remember your face.” Jane gave a sweet smile.
“I heard the conversation. Boao will not betray P&F for a double price, will it?”
“Ha, ha. Miss Lim, All-star’s offer is extremely determining. But I would like to hear your opinion about it.”
“Any other companies should be aware of cooperating with All-star, which used to be one of the shareholders of Lim Group. Besides, as an employee of P&F, I believe the president is competent of bringing about more profits to his business partners.”
On looking at the determined girl in front of him, Sam was clearly aware that his life was going to be completely different from now on.
