The second day's competition arrived as scheduled. After finishing the long-distance race, Cheng Jin was already lying on the grass with the boys next to him, taking a rest.
"Too tired."
"Yeah, it's so exhausting. If it weren't for succumbing to the tyranny of the monitor, I would never want to go."
Everyone sighed one after another, with a tone of complaint, but actually not feeling much. There's nothing to be done, the squad leader is popular and always playing tricks on people! "Cheng Jin, I didn't expect you to be quite impressive. You're not even out of breath."
Cheng Jin looked to the side with a faint gaze, "No, I'm quite tired."
Although he doesn't speak much in front of everyone, if someone initiates a conversation with him, as long as it's not a boring topic, he will respond. After all, they are classmates.
When it comes to girls, he is relatively aloof, or rather, he simply does not interact with them at all.
In the afternoon, the sunlight remained gentle and warm as ever.
The four hundred meter relay race should be considered the final event of the sports meet. It is a team activity, and almost every college will send a few representatives, divided into boys and girls.
Because of the collective honor at stake, all the students will cheer for their own college. The participating students can be said to be the focus of attention by everyone.
Everyone took their positions on the track, and Mu Rui was the last one. There were only a few of them on the spacious playground, and the atmosphere was indeed a bit tense.
"Bang——"
I don't know how it started, but they flew out like arrows, young boys waved their arms and ran on their own tracks.
Cheng Jin is the third one. The four of them are doing a relay, and Mu Rui is standing beside him.
"加油。"
As Cheng Jin jogged to prepare to receive the relay baton from his teammate, Mu Rui whispered a sentence. Clearly, Cheng Jin heard it, and he quickly glanced at Mu Rui before swiftly running out, with the wind lifting his clothes.
Cheers resounded from all directions, blending the voices of both boys and girls.
The enigmatic colors on the horizon, resembling a splash of paint from a bucket, flow along the skyline in tangled threads. The beautiful and warm sunset gently descends upon the entire playground, casting a light orange hue in all directions.
The vitality of young people is truly admirable.
"Oh!"
Sharp exclamations came from the surrounding crowd as all eyes fell upon the two individuals on the track. The two boys on the fourth and fifth lanes were leading the pack, almost running side by side, both seemingly vying for first place.
Cheng Jin is the fifth one.
Mu Rui and another classmate from a different courtyard stood together at the junction, anxiously looking ahead.
Suddenly, the two of them collided with each other at a corner for some unknown reason. They both fell down simultaneously, sliding far away. One of them stumbled and fell straight ahead. It appeared that they were injured quite badly. Although it was a rubber-paved track, there were still tiny grains of sand.
However, neither of them stopped because of this. They quickly climbed up and continued running forward, but their speed clearly slowed down. The boy beside Cheng Jin seemed to have sprained his foot.
Boys and girls around all stood up one after another, half worried and half regretful, as the runners on the adjacent track had already surpassed them.
When Mu Rui received the relay baton, he saw Cheng Jin's unpleasant expression and scraped arms. For a brief moment, a flicker of concern crossed his mind. However, in order to uphold the honor of their class, he could only run with all his might at the moment, without paying attention to anything else and having no spare thoughts.
"Come on! Wudi, keep going! Mu Rui, fight!"
"Mu Rui, keep up the good work!"
All around, the classmates in the class shouted with all their might, as if charging forward into battle, putting all their strength into the final sprint.
Living up to everyone's expectations, Mu Rui ultimately managed to catch up with a few people and obtained second place.
The classmates almost surrounded him, passing water bottles, patting shoulders, giving hugs, and cheering loudly.
And it appears that the other boy who just fell down is in last place.
"They must have intentionally bumped into you, damn it."
"Looks can be deceiving."
Some of the boys next door were a bit angry and couldn't help but ask him about the situation at the time, whether that Cheng Jin guy bumped into you.
Unable to make out what exactly was being said, but the earlier suspicions were an insult to people. Murui was slightly unhappy and temporarily avoided everyone's excitement, sneaking towards Cheng Jin.
He was sitting alone, while several female classmates from the Student Union were helping him clean his injured arm. The pebbles were embedded in a large gash, with blood flowing incessantly.
"How about it?"
"It's not that serious, but it looks quite afraid of people," the girl next to her interjected.
Mu Rui lowered his head and leaned in closer. Cheng Jin, on the other hand, responded indifferently, "It's nothing serious, just a minor injury."
"Let's go to the school infirmary and have your wound bandaged. I'll take you there."
Mu Rui was not at ease. It would be best for him to go and let the doctor take a look after getting dirty. What if it's tetanus? What should he do then?
Cheng Jin was somewhat taken aback and looked up at him, as if it was not something normal. Mu Rui, on the other hand, didn't mind. He felt that Cheng Jin didn't have many friends, so he had more interactions with him compared to others. It was only natural for him to care about his classmates and friends.
However, Cheng Jin's expression was a bit strange. He lowered his head and took the towel from the basin, gently cleaning his arms. "It's really nothing. I can handle it myself."
"Hey..." Murui straightened up and stood to the side, feeling a little disappointed. This person is not easy to get close to.
A few girls were comforting by the side, saying, "Cheng Jin, why don't you let Mu Rui accompany you to take a look? The abrasion is quite big, at least put some medicine on it."
"Just go and have a look, it would put our minds at ease knowing that you're taking care of the honor of our department." The girls in the science class were straightforward and bold, speaking without constraint, which made people feel comfortable.
"Okay, thanks."
Cheng Jin hesitated for a while before speaking. He was afraid that if he didn't agree, he would be carried over forcefully. He still preferred to stay with familiar people.
Mu Rui breathed a sigh of relief. This was how it should be.
Outside the playground, several boys from different dormitories were walking together, seeming quite unhappy. They were still discussing Cheng Jin's matters, but their words were becoming more and more irrelevant.
Coincidentally, the two of them happened to pass by.
Cheng Jin remained silent, acting as if he hadn't heard a word. He had grown accustomed to this kind of treatment. However, Mu Rui felt a surge of anger in his heart. He stopped in his tracks, his face growing cold.
"What nonsense are you all talking about?" someone next to him said. "In a competition, there are wins and losses. Are you lacking such magnanimity?"
"Yo."
Several boys nearby also stopped and turned their bodies to look at the two of them. Their gazes shifted and their tone carried a hint of nonchalance. "Well, well, well, who do we have here? What a small world. There are winners and losers in a competition, but it's best to play fair and not resort to any tricks, treating others like blind fools."
The tall boy's gaze was like a sharp knife as he spoke, his strong voice cutting like a sharp blade, as if he only stopped after piercing through the heart of Cheng Jin.
Mu Rui clenched his fingers tightly. "What do you mean? Who is playing tricks?"
