Four years later.
The sound of tapping on the keyboard resonated continuously in the room. Not long after, the landline on the desk rang, causing the man sitting at the table, who was busy taking notes, to look up and reach out to answer the phone.
The conversation lasted only one minute, and then the man hung up the phone. He stood up from the office chair and picked up his suit jacket hanging on the hanger. As he put it on, he walked towards the door.
Several young and beautiful secretaries walked towards him. Upon seeing the man, they all bowed respectfully and greeted, "Good afternoon, Deputy General Manager Chen."
Chen Yihan nodded in acknowledgement, responding politely without speaking. She pushed open the glass revolving door on the ground floor and went directly to the parking lot to get in her car.
Those few people vaguely sensed that Mr. Chen's mood today seemed different from usual. They felt a bit nervous in their hearts and quietly began discussing after watching him walk away.
"What happened? Vice President Chen's face looks so gloomy."
The company in Zone A just went public, and the prospects are estimated to be not very promising...
Another girl raised a finger and made a shushing gesture, her expression serious as she said, "Based on the current time, it seems to be when that person finishes school."
This statement silenced the rest, and they hurriedly rushed towards their respective tasks, refraining from further discussion.
A black sedan pulled up and stopped outside the northern gate of T University. Chen Yihan got out of the car, glanced at the dense crowd around, and then walked towards the campus.
The T Library is crowded throughout the year, but most people gather in the reading area. Due to the excessively quiet environment, Chen Yihan couldn't help but slow down his footsteps. He walked all the way to the second floor free reading area, where he found the familiar figure in the crowd and walked over with large strides.
The once picturesque and handsome young boy has transformed into a tall and slender young man. Wearing a white shirt and a gray sweater, his jet-black hair falls down in a fragmented manner. As he reads, his long eyelashes flutter like butterfly wings, and simply sitting there, he appears as if he were a painting.
Hearing a sound from ahead, Cen XiuZhi raised his eyes and glanced at Chen YiHan, then put the book back and asked in a low voice, "Is there something you need?"
Chen Yihan's breathing became a bit rapid. After looking around for a while and not seeing anyone, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. However, his expression remained unchanged, and he spoke in a calm tone, "School's over, I'll pick you up and take you home."
Cen Xiuzhi didn't respond and walked towards the outside of the library. Chen Yihan quickly followed.
In just two short years, despite Cen Xiuzhi's efforts to turn the tide single-handedly, the Chu family went from being a once thriving conglomerate to a struggling small company. On the day of its bankruptcy, unable to face reality, both Mr. Chu and Mrs. Chu jumped off a building and ended their lives. Left with no choice, Cen Xiuzhi, begrudgingly accepting the villa that was supposed to be their divorce settlement, eventually became the place where his younger siblings reside.
The burden of life weighed heavily on the shoulders of Cen Xiuzhi alone. Unexpectedly, Chen Yihan, whom Cen Xiuzhi regarded as an enemy, had been helping him throughout these four years without ever asking for anything in return. Initially, Cen Xiuzhi believed that all of this was orchestrated by Gu Jin. However, as the years went by, Gu Jin never contacted him, and Chen Yihan never mentioned Gu Jin's name in his presence.
Even the deepest affection cannot withstand years of neglect and indifference. Cen Xiuzhi had feelings for Gu Jin, but he wasn't so devoted. The inexplicable disappearance had already begun to erode his feelings and trust in Gu Jin.
