Alyssa followed Callum out of the CEO’s office. They turned a corner and came to some cubicles. Callum walked to a desk, at which was sitting a woman in a black outfit. "Harriet, hand over your work to her. After that, you can go on your maternity leave."
The woman wore light makeup and glasses with a black frame. Alyssa noticed her swollen belly and judged that she might be six months pregnant.
With a polite smile, she greeted the woman, "Hi, I’m Alyssa Lin. Nice to meet you."
Harriet stared at her sharply. The girl had a sincere, innocent smile, so Harriet assumed that she must have just graduated from university.
She pushed herself on the arms of the chair to get up. Alyssa rushed over to help her. Once Harriet could stand steadily, Alyssa took two steps back and stood aside respectfully.
Callum glanced at her casually. Harriet replied, "Hi, I’m Harriet Fang. Nice to meet you too."
As soon as the two met, Callum considered his job done and returned to his desk. Alyssa walked over to Harriet and said, "Congratulations, Harriet! You’re about to be a mom."
A smiled crept over Harriet’s nonchalant face. She stroked her belly, the look in her eyes gentle.
Every mother-to-be looked forward to the day when they could see their baby and hold them in their arms. The baby was their soft spot. It seemed that Alyssa was making a casual conversation, but she actually had made a favorable first impression on Harriet.
Next, Harriet reminded her of the things she should heed to do the job. She also told her about Aaron's habits. Harriet was his sixth secretary, and Aaron was happy with her job. But now she was about to have a baby, so Alyssa was to substitute for her.
At soon, Harriet took Alyssa to the cafeteria.
Alyssa had known that the food in JK Group's cafeteria was fantastic, but she hadn't expected it to be so expensive. She bought Harriet's lunch as well as her own. She also bought a warm glass of milk for her.
Harriet accepted all of it gladly. Looking at Alyssa, she found her smart and tactful.
"Harriet, when you are on maternity leave, can I call you if I have any questions about the job?"
Alyssa asked after drinking some iced lemonade to wash down the food in her mouth.
"Of course. Any time."
"Great. Thanks."
After a while, Alyssa's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID on the screen, Alyssa smiled. She had thought he wouldn't call her at lunchtime.
"Hello?" she said happily.
Judging from the look on her face, Harriet could tell that it was her boyfriend on the other end of the line. Harriet was done eating. She got tired easily after getting pregnant, so she decided to take a nap.
She gestured to Alyssa, telling her that she was leaving.
Alyssa took her phone away from her ear and said, "Okay. Watch your steps."
Harriet smiled, thinking that the new girl was even more thoughtful than her husband.
Alyssa let out of a sigh of relief after Harriet left.
She put the phone back to her ear and complained, "I thought you wouldn't call me."
Sitting in his leather chair with his legs crossed, Basil said with a smile, "Of course I will.
How is your first day?"
"It’s okay. Our CEO appointed me as his secretary.
Oh, my God. I’m so nervous."
It was not a good thing for Alyssa to stay close to Aaron.
With her slack attitude, she could be a goner within minutes.
