What Tony said sounded like a thunder roaring in her ears. She stood still there staring at Tony. Yesterday’s picture of Saxon’s desiring eyesight as well as his action in the dark came to her mind.
She asked her father in a trembling voice, "What’s the matter? What did he say? Why did you ask this way?"
This series of questions surprised Tony. He paused and questioned his daughter, "Why are you so nervous… I just wondered why he cared so much about you? Before leaving, he asked me which school you went to? He waited here for a long time."
"Even as Uncle Fu and I were sitting beside him, he could not help watching the stairs for you. Clearly, he cared for you. Didn’t you meet each other for the first time last night? Why did your relationship develop so quickly after one night only? "Tony asked Winnie.
Winnie became even more nervous. Her face went pale. She did not expect Saxon would say this.
But she believed Saxon told her father all these deliberately. He meant to let the seniors know that they were in good term. Thus she knew she could not get away from him easily.
Still Winnie wondered why Saxon was different from last life. At that time he kept himself away from her, while in this life he did the opposite by coming close to her on purpose.
Was it her obvious rejection to him that enraged this arrogant man?
Winnie looked at her father figuring how to explain about Saxon to him?
She paused for a while and forced herself a smile. She explained in a low voice then, "Actually, nothing special. …only last night, I was thirsty, but I had no water in my bedroom, so I came downstairs for water. And he was just there too!"
"Maybe both of us didn’t feel sleepy, so we had a chat. We found we shared a lot of hobbies in common…" Winnie talked and nodded as if to affirm her words.
After hearing Winnie’s story, Tony seemed to understand what had happened to Saxon.
Actually, Winnie pretended to be calm in front of her father. When she at last went back to her bedroom, her mental defense was completely destroyed all of a sudden.
She leant against the wall and her hands clenched. She knew what Saxon said to her father was actually a warning to her.
The following days, she was always in a panic without knowing what Saxon might do to her. A week passed and he had no news.
Winnie gradually felt relaxed. She thought she might worry too much about it. She was clear that in the previous life Saxon didn’t love her. He even hated her in fact. So maybe it was only an accident for that night.
Though still some doubts about Saxon existed, the night’s interlude confirmed her this idea—She must study hard and be a person of achievements.
In the last life, she lost herself by loving him. In Senior Three, she transferred to his class. After they married, she left school and became a full time wife to take care of him.
But in the end, her devoted love brought her the tragic death in the sea of fire!
Bearing in mind this lesson in the previous life, she kept telling herself not to be that way again. She must study and be a person of achievements.
According to her father, it was all right for her to be admitted to any national university. But Winnie decided to try to study abroad.
So Winnie began to study hard. She will try her best to create her own bright future.
On the day before the school opened, Granny came to ask her for supper. Winnie was then troubled by a study problem, so she came downstairs with the book directly.
Tony was surprised and asked, "Why do our Winnie suddenly change to be so hardworking?" Winnie didn’t take it serious and gave a casual reply.
Of course, Tony was happy seeing his daughter working hard. He only wondered and worried why she suddenly changed.
Tony’s concern was quite touching to Winnie. Seriously, she affirmed her father, "Father, don’t worry. The reason I am studying hard is to make myself a better person."
Tony was very pleased to hear it. It was really comforting that he didn’t need to worry about his daughter any more because she could take care of herself.
Winnie did believe that she could get hold of her own life from now on as long as she worked hard.
But on the school open day, when she saw the new comer in her class, she felt like falling through ice. She could not hear the girls around whispering how handsome he was. She just wanted to flee away. She saw Saxon standing in the platform speaking to the teacher gently, "Can I sit beside Winnie? We know each other and we are good friends…"
