The silver moonlight crept its way into the window and fell onto the weeping girl huddling up on the sofa.
She was never strong or competent. She was just a little princess got used to be protected under her father’s wings.
Her mother had suffered a lot and nearly got to lose her lives each time she managed to give birth to both daughters.
So her father was truly devoted in raising Jane and her little sister.
He had been the most influential and sophisticated leader operating the company to its prime as well as the most amicable and loving man to his family and neighbors.
While the man gave his deepest love to his first born--Jane.
As for Jane, her father was like a superman. So she didn’t assume the Lim Group going broke was a big deal when she heard the frightening news.
However, her wonderland collapsed on that day. She couldn’t believe her eyes as she met her father sleeping in peace at that funeral parlour.
The old man left her without saying a goodbye. For an instant, she had to take up the debts and all responsibilities he dropped behind before the girl ever had a chance to wipe off her tears.
No one knew how she wanted to fish by the lake with her father and go home together once again.
Jane’s father would always say “I and Jane have brought you a feast” to Cindy and her mother each time they took trophies home.
The little sister would clap her hands and dance around the living room.
All of these would never happen again.
While the good thing was that the mother finally came round.
Tears welled up in Jane’s eyes as she was retrospecting what she had gone through all these days.
Then she just burst into tears.
In the meantime, the man outside the door had finished puffing the last cigarette. He stubbed it out in the dark corridor, tossed it onto the ground on which there already had been a dozen of cigarette butts and then moved his feet out of this place.
The next morning, Jane put on some foundation, lipstick, rouge and a pair of glasses to make her look better. Then she made some breakfast and went to the hospital to see her mother--no matter how the woman judged her or scolded her, she was always her family.
While Jane was stunned as she stepped into the patient room. Her mother was chatting with a young man, whose figure was what Jane had been dying to find over these days.
The guy turned around with a beaming face.
When he got close to Jane and took over what she’s holding, Jane smelled her favorite scent--the same old fragrance he’d always been wearing.
Jane had joked that if he had done some magic to her that she was obsessed with his smell. And the man didn’t say a word but giving a smiled and caressing her hair.
He was Jane’s first love--her fiance--Henry McQueen.
“Come here. Sit.” Jane’s mother called.
Jane avoided the guy’s eyes and headed toward her mother.
The woman sighed and explained to Henry, “She’s so spoiled by me. Don’t take it seriously.”
“Please don’t say that. It’s my fault that you suffered a lot over the past period of time.”
The handsome guy put on a concerned expression.
“Mrs Lim, please have some breakfast. I want to have a conversation with Jane.” Henry helped to set the table, then grabbed Jane by the elbow and took her outside the room.
“I don’t wanna speak to you.” Jane shook him off.
“Jane, my sweetheart, I know it’s too late to explain. After the car accident, my parents were hiding everything about you and your family from me. It never occurs to me that you’ve suffered all of these during the past two weeks. Now I just hate myself of not being able to stay with you and help you out of the trouble.”
“It’s too late--like what you have said. Now you really don’t have to explain. It doesn’t make any difference.” Jane looked up the guy in the eyes. She couldn’t tell what she was feeling at the moment.
“No, please.” Henry clutched her arm tightly and didn’t want to let go.
“If you do love him, I’ll bless you a happy future. But my love, I know you don’t. You love me, don’t you?”
“I don’t love neither of you.” Jane pushed him away and didn’t feel like recalling the past.
While the guy didn’t let go and held her even more tightly.
“My sweetheart, you’re my one and only fiancee no matter will happen in the future.”
Jane closed her eyes in his arms--she missed his embrace so much!
However, both of them were suddenly dragged apart. Before Jane could realize what had happened, Henry was punched on the face.
“Wayne Chen, what’s wrong with you?” Jane yelled.
She was sternly gazed by the man as if she had made a big mistake.
Henry was a few steps away with another man blocking in between Jane and himself.
He then pounced upon and fought with the guy.
Jane dashed to both young men and managed to stop them.
It was not desirable for the news of both extremely rich guys grappling for one girl at the hospital being reported to the public then.
“Go.” Wayne grabbed Jane’s arm and was about to leave.
While the other arm of hers was tightly clutched by Henry.
“Sorry about that but she’s my fiancee.” Henry put on an angry fierce expression that Jane had never seen before.
While Wayne didn’t give him a look but staring at Jane in the eyes.
“You are trapping her with money. I’ll pay you what she owes you.”
“My honey, don’t fret, stay with me.”
And the man tossed a sneer to Wayne.
“Don’t you wanna know the truth about your father’s death?” Wayne whispered these words in her ear and walked away.
Jane was astonished.
She knew her father wouldn’t have given up his life and left his family behind like that. But she didn’t have any clues. It seemed like this guy did know something.
“Sorry.” Jane pushed Henry away and ran to Wayne.
