Winnie was lost in thought. She knew more than others about Saxon’s insistence and cruelty. She was grieved. Besides, the appearance of Sherry in school was also quite a disturbance to her.
Thinking of all these, Winnie was at a loss and asked Granny, “Then, what can I do?”
Granny’s heart ached at seeing Winnie in such a state. She had been taking care of Winnie since she was young. She thought it her responsibility to make her idea clear, “One more thing I hope you understand is that though we are also a rich family, we cannot compare with the Fu’s. You can know this well from your father’s appreciating attitude to Saxon. So, in future, if Saxon forces to marry you, even your father cannot stop him and protect you.”
Winnie’s face went pale. She was desperate. She was lost in thought and sat there saying nothing. Granny thought it might be because she was too young to understand all these or simply she was not used to it. Granny wanted to comfort her.
But she noticed though her face was still pale, Winnie was not as frightened as in the beginning. From her eyes, Granny could see some deep emotion not belonging to a child of her age. And she heard her answer in a low calm voice, “Yes, I know.” It seemed as if the little girl suddenly grew up to a steady and reliable adult.
Winnie slowly stood up in front of Granny and spoke to her, “Granny, if I ask my father’s permission to go abroad to study, do you think he will agree?” Granny was surprised to hear this, but from Winnie’s expression, she could read some confidence and expectation.
Granny knew Winnie was not a blindly kind girl. She was smart. She felt relieved and smilingly sighed, “Time flies. I supposed you were still a little girl reaching to my knees, but you’ve grown up actually.” She was relieved and gratified to gaze at Winnie standing before her, smart, and more and more beautiful. Then she turned around and walked out to the door while telling Winnie, “I am old now. Maybe I can not give you any useful suggestion. But remember he is your father, who loves you very much, though he might feel reluctant to let you go abroad.”
Saxon went to his bedroom after he left Winnie. He leant against the door and stood there motionlessly for a long time. Then he slowly walked to the window.
Night began to fall. It was dark outside. Saxon looked gloomy. He opened the curtain and looked at the window with soft light not far away. Though because of a curtain there, he could not see the person inside, he felt soft in his heart.
However…
Saxon suddenly turned serious. It hit on him what had just happened in Winnie’s bedroom. Since long, he had hoped to force Winnie by exposing their relationship in public, but he didn’t expect to be so early. After all, he was reborn to the world and it was still early to promise to take care of Winnie. And even his father would not agree with him.
Thus, just now, he tried to be respectful to Granny hoping that she would understand him but not reject him like Winnie.
Saxon’s eyesight turned away from that window and was lost in thought. If in the last life, Winnie fought against him because of his violent way dealing with her, in this life, her rejection to him was like from her nature.
Thinking about these, Saxon compressed his lips and looked affectionately at that bedroom with soft yellow light. Just then the telephone on the bed rang. He picked it up and frowned at seeing the name flashing on the screen. He answered in a low voice, “Father…”
Justin was standing in front of his study window looking outside. Hearing his son’s voice, he asked directly, “I was told you settled that land of the Shen’s?”
To face this expected questioning, Saxon still felt a little uncertain. He put down the curtain and then answered in a low voice, “Yes.”
Justin knew his son well. He had exposed to the business world from childhood. He was very shrewd in business. So of course he knew the Shen’s land was a troublesome issue. So he wondered how could his son try so hard to go into the matter without asking for any return.
